Rook & Black Market won't survive COVID, closing September 5th

In an announcement made this morning by owner Ed Rudisell on Facebook, popular downtown restaurants, Black Market & Rook, will permanently close their doors on Saturday, Sept 5th — citing not being able to overcome the pandemic.

Rook has been a Fletcher Place favorite over the last several years since opening in 2013 known for contemporary Asian street food. It originally opened inside the Hinge Building, neighboring Chilly Water Brewing before moving to it’s current location.

All the while, Black Market is a Mass Ave staple, churning out modern takes on regional Mexican cuisine for the last nine years.

Rudisell thanked his staff while also mentioning the hardships facing the hospitality industry. Slow sales and insurance companies refusal to pay out for work stoppage have contributed to the mounting debt. With no end in sight, restaurants are having to make tough decisions.
