Mississippi Belle reopens next Wednesday after nearly losing everything to electric fire

While many restaurants throughout the city have reopened as COVID restrictions have lifted and a sense of normalcy begins to return, Mississippi Belle’s reopening may be even sweeter.

The popular soul food restaurant will resume its regular hours when it reopens April 14, after an 18-month hiatus due to an electric fire.

Owner Jay Wilson told the IBJ  that “it was a complete loss.  The smoke damage was so much, it was a complete loss of everything.”

Mississippi Belle, which opened more than 20 years ago, is basically a new restaurant with kitchen equipment, decor, furnishing, roofing, drywall, and electrical & plumbing systems all being replaced.

But some things just can’t be replaced, like the menu and staff. The entire kitchen staff is returning and so will most of the family-style menu items.
