A Bloomington favorite Social Cantina is taking its expansion in a new direction, opening in Carmel by year’s end.
The modern Mexican joint will be located on the first floor of the Railyard at Midtown Apartments, which sits across from Sun King Spirits on the Monon Trail.
“Our Bloomington location is heavily dependent on foot traffic, walkability, being on the square. We really felt that the Midtown/Monon Boulevard area really played into our hand with that,” vice president of operations, Chris Martin told the IBJ.
The area has become a hotspot over the last few years with Carmel Arts & Design District and City Center just blocks away — on the Monon, many new restaurant openings including Anthony’s Chophouse, Fork + Ale House, Monterey Coastal, Savor and Java House Coffee Bar among others.
Social Cantina has a simple yet creative menu made primarily of 12 tacos, serving a variety of bowls with both traditional flavors and proteins from carne asada to ahi tuna.
The bar might be the restaurant’s claim to fame with an ever-growing tequila wall that has more than 125 different options.
Social Cantina is part of the successful Finney Hospitality Group which owns several restaurants including The Tap which has locations Downtown, in West Lafayette and Bloomington, as well Yogi’s and SmokeWorks.
The restaurant group originally had plans to be open a Social Cantina location at Indianapolis International Airport before hitting the pause on development. Development will resume at some point though.
Construction hasn’t yet begun but Finney Hospitality believes the restaurant could be open by November or December.
