Edwards Drive-In closed last weekend after more than 60 years, Dashboard Diner food truck remains open

Southside icon Edwards Drive-In permanently closed its doors this past weekend. In a post on their Facebook page, the restaurant released the following statement.

“It is with great sorrow we announce that Edwards Drive-In has permanently closed.  Our last day of operation was January 8, 2022.  Circumstances beyond our control prohibit us from giving our fabulous and loyal customers the goodbye you rightfully deserve.  We are genuinely appreciative of your patronage and are grateful for your business and support for over 64 years.

Thanks to our fiercely loyal customers, the difficult decision to close was never based on a lack of business.  Over the years, we have faced and overcome many obstacles; however, these past two years have been particularly difficult.  Due to the many challenges, stresses, and demands caused by the pandemic, we simply are no longer able to operate at the level in which we strive, and you deserve.  As a result, we have decided to close the restaurant and focus on ways we may better serve the public.

Thank you to our employees, both past and present.  It is because of their hard work and tireless efforts that we have been able to provide the great customer service and delicious food you have come to expect.  We have been blessed to have had amazing employees.  So many people have put their hearts and souls into this restaurant to make it a success, and for that we are grateful.

We are proud of the restaurant our grandparents and parents started 64 years ago and the legacy it has become.  In many ways, saying goodbye to the restaurant is like saying goodbye to a loved one.  There are so many wonderful memories and relationships attached to this building that we know for us, it is like losing a part of our family.

However, this is not a goodbye to our customers, but rather an “until we meet again.”  Although Edwards Drive-In is permanently closed, we plan to continue serving the public on the streets of Indiana with our food truck, the Dashboard Diner.  Be on the lookout for the Dashboard Diner and please follow us at and on our Facebook page.

Again, thank you to everyone who has helped make Edwards Drive-In a southside family tradition.  It has been a pleasure serving you!

~The Edwards’ Family”
