One of downtown’s newest restaurants The Hulman, which opened in late October is hosting its second-ever drag brunch on March 27, after launching the event last month. The Hulman is one of two dining options at the recently opened, boutique Hotel Indy.

The restaurant is named after Anton “Tony” Hulman, Jr. who purchased Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1945 preventing it’s closing.

The brunch will be hosted by popular local performers like 2021’s Mr. Gay Indiana Blake Chilton Monroe, Pat Yo Weave and Tia Mirage Hall. Music will be provided by DJ PushPause.

Drag brunches have become wildly popular throughout the country, even becoming commonplace weekend traditions. Often times, many are a partnership between restaurants, local organizations and charities promoting diversity and inclusion.

The Hulman isn’t the only act in town. Heron-Morton’s Baby’s which was once the former Talbot Street Nightclub, a pillar in the LGBTQ community before closing in 2016, hosts a regular drag brunch on Sundays.

Several other local businesses like Illusions, Tap & Dolls, Tin Roof, Black Circle Brewing and Wooden Bear Brewing Co also have regular drag events.

Drag events are more than entertainment only, many known for their community impact. Brunch proceeds at Louisville’s CC’s Low Carb Kitchen benefits nonprofits like Hope’s Closet, which provides foster & adoptive children with clothing and other necessities free of charge.

“The whole idea was just to make it a place where everybody is welcome. It didn’t matter what somebody’s background was, sexual preference, race or whatever,” CC’s owner Corey Milliman told Fox News. “It’s not a threat to anyone’s masculinity or sexuality, it’s just entertainment.”

Drag as an art form has become mainstream over the last decade thanks in part to popular television shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race. But it dates back into the early 1700s.

Tickets for the Hulman’s drag brunch are $40 per person which includes dishes from their brunch menu. There will be two showings at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Going forward, “Drag Me to Brunch” will be the 4th Sunday of every month.
