Popular California-based chain Dave’s Hot Chicken, which currently operates 13 locations, has decided now is the time for it’s national expansion — with plans to open 40 locations this year and 359 locations over the next five years after deals with 26 franchisees.

Franchisee group Dave Diggity of Fort Wayne has signed on to bring 28 locations to the Indiana and Ohio markets.

“We’ll likely start in Indianapolis, and I imagine we’ll develop 10 or 11 in Indianapolis. We hope to have our first location open by the end of this year in Indiana, if not early 2022,” Dave Diggity CEO Todd Hollman told the IBJ

Dave’s Hot Chicken has a rather small menu, limited to tenders and sliders as well as a few sides and milkshakes.

There are seven heat levels to choose from. The hottest option, the reaper, actually requires a signed waiver in order to try it.

Starting just a few years in a tent on Hollywood Boulevard, Dave’s Hot Chicken is now one of the fasting growing chains in America.
