Post Having Covid-19: Where Does One Eat in Indy?

Yes. I had the Rona. My best guess how this happened: I was V careful social distancing responsibly since March, but on a trip out of state recently I ended up being around one person that was around one other person a few days before that tested positive for Covid. I am very thankful it was a mild case, but I had all symptoms. Trouble breathing at times, fatigue, low-grade fever, sore throat, loss of taste and smell. This virus is no joke. It’s even gotten to my family members in the middle of nowhere Indiana. I rested and worked through it for fourteen days and got two negative tests in the last couple weeks. Praise.

As someone who gets most of my joy from food, the loss of taste was the worst. It was a Friday night when I figured out what was happening. I couldn’t smell or taste the bacon with the pierogies I just made, the hella bacon and cheese I added in a usually delicious pasta carbonara, OR in the burger, fries, and shake I had delivered from Five Guys after that. (Yes, I had three dinners that night in complete panic mode.)

Once I had two negative tests, I ventured outdoors with caution this week. I was born again. Being cautious, most meals I detailed below were carry out.

Slapfish on Massachusetts Avenue

I lived on Mass Ave for four years so obviously I ate my way through that part of town consistently. Slapfish being relatively newer I had to visit for carryout. I had the Lobster Roll, Fried Pickles, and Chowder Fries. Note: go for dinner unless you want to fall asleep in the middle of the day at your work from home desk after lunch like me.

Chiang Mai Thai Noodle in Broad Ripple

Plenty of outdoor seating for a lovely meal even during light rain to entire downpours which is what happened while I was there. Ordered Sake recommended by the staff, Thai Dumplings, and Red Curry. I will go back for the Crab Rangoon which was out when I arrived by 7:30pm. No picture for this one, but their online menu gives pictures for every dish.

The Gallery Pastry Shop across from Bankers Life

Open at 7am most days to pick up the biggest Almond Croissant and Chef Ben’s Seasonal Creations. Pictured are their tables with fresh flowers. A lemon and chocolate strawberry desserts were breakfast that day.

The Missing Brick off Binford

Of course during Midwest Black Restaurant Week, The Missing Brick was a must. The Trap Pizza is twelve inches of pure goodness, and I snagged some Edibles with OG Trap Buttah. I lucked out getting to order over the phone, so if you need to order physically at TMB plan on spending some time there while you wait. Those pizzas take love and care in the fancy brick oven before they are ready to smash.

Seraphim Asian Grill in Broad Ripple

This place is an absolute must. Homemade noodles? Yes. Please. Every. Day. Ramen Shoyu was my choice. The appetizers-get Roti with Curry and Xiaobao Sliders. Roti is often a dessert type of dish with sweet milk, nutella, or other sweet goodies. This is a savory take with curry. I cannot say enough about the Xiaobao Sliders. The buns are the softest clouds of dough. I’ve never had anything so soft. Sometimes pork belly buns leave me disappointed due to a dry and thin slice of meat and that’s it. Not here. Seraphim makes sure the meat is thick and juicy with extra sauce and a little kimchi or veggies on top. Perfection. Go. Right meow.

Cheers to health and tasting all the food again.
