Brunch at The Whale in Chicago

The upscale establishment is named after the casino culture term used to describe a gambler with a budget between $1 to $20 million who makes ample use of the venue’s perks. The Whale is located at 2427 N. Milwaukee Avenue, across from the neighborhood’s Taco Bell Cantina. According to Block Club Chicago, the interior is designed to evoke mid-century American elegance with modern details, featuring deep reds, blacks, and gold accents to amplify the luxurious atmosphere.

The Whale’s interior can seat around 200 people, with additional outdoor seating. The restaurant also features a range of televisions, with some booths equipped with two TVs each. When not in use, the screens will become mirrors or art pieces, which Marks hopes will prevent patrons from feeling overwhelmed by televisions.

The menu at The Whale offers a variety of seafood and meat dishes, such as Colorado lamb chops with crispy potatoes and romesco sauce, mini lobster wonton tacos with avocado, cilantro, mango salsa, and lime aioli, and a Creole-roasted pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw, garlic dill pickles, and parsley. In addition to dinner, the restaurant serves brunch, including dishes such as rock shrimp and grits with bacon, smoked sausage, garlic, yellow onion, and red and poblano peppers.

The Whale also has a selection of wine, beer, and cocktails on offer, with the option for brunch attendees to try 100-ounce towers of sangrias, mimosas, or bellinis intended for groups.
